Three ordinary Forever stamps provide $2.46 in postage at the 82-cent rate effective July 12, 2026. You may place all three on one envelope, but three stamps do not automatically mean three ounces. The required postage depends on the mail class, shape, dimensions, weight and destination.

Three Forever Stamps at a Glance

Value of one ordinary Forever stamp $0.82
Value of three $2.46
Calculation 3 × $0.82 = $2.46
Can all three go on one envelope? Yes
Does three stamps equal three ounces? No

How Much Weight Do Three Forever Stamps Cover?

There is no single weight answer without identifying the mailpiece. For an eligible domestic First-Class Mail letter, the first ounce is 82 cents and each additional ounce is 29 cents. A normal letter can weigh up to 3.5 ounces, but its price is calculated from the base rate plus the applicable additional-ounce charges—not by assigning one Forever stamp to every ounce.

At current rates, three Forever stamps are more postage than a standard machinable letter needs anywhere within its 3.5-ounce letter limit. Using all three is allowed, but it usually means overpaying. A square, rigid or otherwise nonmachinable letter can also require a surcharge.

Common Domestic Letter Examples

Eligible letter weight Current postage Three stamps?
Up to 1 ounce $0.82 Allowed, but overpays by $1.64
Over 1 through 2 ounces $1.11 Allowed, but overpays by $1.35
Over 2 through 3 ounces $1.40 Allowed, but overpays by $1.06
Over 3 through 3.5 ounces $1.69 Allowed, but overpays by $0.77

These examples assume an ordinary machinable domestic stamped letter. They do not apply automatically to large envelopes, packages, international mail or mail needing an extra service.

When $2.46 May Still Be Insufficient

  • The piece is a flat, package or another mail class rather than a letter.
  • It is oversized, rigid, square or otherwise nonmachinable.
  • It is going internationally and exceeds the base letter or postcard conditions.
  • You add Certified Mail, insurance, tracking or another paid service.

How to Avoid Overpaying

  1. Measure and weigh the finished, sealed mailpiece.
  2. Identify whether it is a letter, large envelope or package.
  3. Use one Forever stamp for the qualifying first ounce, then add exact-value postage for extra ounces or surcharges.
  4. Confirm the final amount with the USPS Postage Price Calculator.

International Use

Three ordinary Forever stamps total $2.46 and may be combined toward international postage. That does not make them the same as three Global Forever stamps. The required amount depends on destination, mail type, weight and dimensions; check the current international rate before mailing.

Frequently Asked Questions

They provide $2.46 in ordinary postage at the current 82-cent Forever rate.

Can I put three Forever stamps on one envelope?

Yes. USPS postage stamps can be combined, provided they are genuine, unused and properly affixed.

Do three Forever stamps cover a three-ounce letter?

Yes for an eligible ordinary domestic machinable letter at current rates, but they overpay. A three-ounce letter currently needs $1.40; shape and service can change the amount.
