Fixed denomination stamps have a stated monetary postage value rather than automatically tracking a designated Forever rate. They are useful for building an exact postage total, adding a small amount to other stamps, or matching a rate with less overpayment.
Calculate by face value
Add the printed values of every valid stamp on the mailpiece and compare the result with the current required postage. A fixed-value stamp keeps its printed dollar or cent value; a later rate change does not increase that printed amount.
When exact values help
- Closing a small gap after other stamps are applied.
- Paying a known surcharge or additional amount.
- Combining older valid postage without overpaying as much.
