What the 1794 Compass Rose Design Shows
The stamp reproduces a colorful compass rose drawn in 1794 by Lucia Wadsworth when she was 10 years old. The drawing came from her school geography notebook and is held in the collections of the Maine Historical Society. USPS art director Greg Breeding adapted the historic image for the round stamp.
The edge inscription repeats “Global,” “USA,” “Forever” and “2025.” That wording identifies the international-rate category and the issue year; it is not a fixed $1.65 or $1.70 denomination.
