Who John Lewis was
John Lewis (1940–2020) was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement, an original Freedom Rider, a keynote speaker at the 1963 March on Washington and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for more than 30 years. USPS issued this stamp as a portrait tribute to his life and public service.
Portrait and stamp design
The stamp uses a photograph of Lewis made by Marco Grob for the August 26, 2013 issue of Time. His name appears along the bottom, while USA and Forever appear at the upper left. USPS art director Derry Noyes designed the stamp. The lighting across Lewis’s face is a deliberate part of the portrait’s visual effect.
Original USPS pane versus this 100-stamp option
USPS originally offered the issue in panes of 15. This store’s purchase option is a 100-stamp retail quantity and states five sheets of 20, so it should not be described as an untouched set of original 15-stamp USPS panes. Confirm the live product photographs and option label when original pane configuration matters to you.

Mailing use

Extra weight, square or rigid construction, oversize dimensions, international delivery or added services can require more postage. Use the USPS postage calculator for a completed mailpiece.
