For an eligible one-ounce First-Class Mail International letter or international postcard sent from the United States, one Global Forever stamp covers the $1.75 base postage in effect September 13, 2026. That answer changes if the destination is unavailable, the piece exceeds the allowed weight or dimensions, it is nonmachinable, or its contents require another service.
Before applying the stamp
- Confirm the destination. Check current USPS international service availability for the country.
- Identify the mailpiece. Decide whether it is a postcard, letter, large envelope or package.
- Measure and weigh it. A Global Forever stamp is not a universal price for every shape or weight.
- Check the contents. First-Class Mail International letters and flats have document-only restrictions; merchandise can require another service and customs documentation.
- Verify the final postage. Use the USPS Postage Calculator when any condition is uncertain.
What one Global Forever stamp covers
| Mailpiece | Base 2026 postage | One Global Forever? |
|---|---|---|
| Eligible international postcard | $1.75 | Yes |
| Eligible one-ounce FCMI letter | $1.75 | Yes |
| Heavier, oversized or nonmachinable letter | Varies | Not necessarily |
| Large envelope or package | Different rules | No universal one-stamp answer |
Can ordinary domestic Forever stamps be used?
Yes. Valid domestic Forever stamps may be combined at their current postage value to meet an international requirement. At the current 82-cent domestic value, two stamps equal $1.64 and are 11 cents short of the $1.75 base international rate. Three equal $2.46 and overpay by 71 cents. A Global Forever stamp is therefore simpler for an eligible one-ounce letter, while another denomination can make a closer combination when using domestic stamps.
Common reasons one stamp is not enough
- The letter weighs more than one ounce.
- The envelope is square, rigid or otherwise nonmachinable.
- The dimensions place it in another mailpiece category.
- The destination has a temporary suspension or service limitation.
- The contents are not eligible documents for the selected service.
- An additional service is requested.
