The four comic eras
- Golden Age (1941–55): art by H. G. Peter, reflecting the character’s original era.
- Silver Age (1956–72): art by Irving Novick, with the golden lasso at hand.
- Bronze Age (1973–86): art by José Luis García-López, showing a raised-fist heroic pose.
- Modern Age (1987–present at issue): art by Cliff Chiang, with Wonder Woman wielding a hammer.
How the pane is arranged
Each design occupies one horizontal row of five stamps, creating a 20-stamp pane. The surrounding selvage uses the then-current Wonder Woman logo over a comic-style blue power burst. The official pane was not intended to be split for individual USPS retail sale.
Why this was a 75th-anniversary issue
Wonder Woman first appeared in a story associated with All Star Comics No. 8 in 1941. The four-stamp progression was designed to show how the character’s visual presentation changed across successive eras rather than to depict four separate characters.
Are unused Wonder Woman stamps still valid?
Yes. A genuine unused example remains valid for the current one-ounce domestic First-Class Mail letter rate. The 2016 issue year and original 47-cent price do not cap its postage value. A heavier, oversized, square, rigid or international mailpiece may need additional or different postage.
Collector checks
- Confirm all four eras if a listing claims a complete pane.
- Distinguish unused postage from a canceled stamp, first-day cover or reproduction.
- Check that a full pane contains 20 stamps.
- Assess collectible condition separately from current postage utility.
