Eight states, eight photographs

Route 66 originally ran about 2,400 miles from Chicago to Los Angeles through Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. The pane assigns one photograph to each state. Every photograph appears twice, so one pane contains two complete eight-design sets; this 80-stamp listing contains ten of each design.

Centennial design

USPS issued the stamps for the highway’s 100th anniversary. Route 66 was established on November 11, 1926. The pane selvage extends the road-trip idea with an Arizona highway view, a route map and issue text. The stamps themselves are square, self-adhesive and printed by offset.

Postage use

Each stamp is a domestic Forever stamp and currently supplies the First-Class Mail one-ounce letter value. The design year does not expire. A heavier, square, rigid, nonmachinable, oversized or international mailpiece needs additional postage or a different service.
